May 1, 2012 Koblenz Germany

Today we arrived in Koblenz Germany where the Rhine and Mosel Rivers meet.  We pulled onto the Mosel to dock then went into Koblenze.

It was a dreary day with on and off rain so tours were not as much fun as others.  I am, at times, very inpatient with guided tours, so I left the tour and headed off on my own.  I took a ride on the aereal tram, which was very nice, then back the boat for some activities there.  Sadly May 1 is Labor Day in Europe, so almost everything was closed - shops, museums, many of the restaurants.  The only things that for sure were open were the souvenir shops next to where the boats dock - imagine that!

Picture 1 the American Flag flown in memory of 9/11

Picture 2 are pieces from the original Berlin Wall.  The American Flag flies across from these.

Picture 3 is the town's chapel.  Very pretty but typical of this area.

Picture 4 is a thumb by Andy Warhol - he is everywhere!

Picture 5 is a statue of Kaiser Wilhelm who was credited for unifying Germany.  After WWII the statue was used for target practice and for a long time only the horse remained.  When the Berlin wall came down and Germany was once again unified, Kaiser Wilhelm was put back on top of the horse.

Pictures 6, 7, and 8 are from the aereal tram and are of the castle in Koblenz.  Some is open to the public for exploration.  The tower below with all the over growth is not.

Picture 9 is an aereal view of the point where the Rhine and Mosel rivers meet and of the statue of Kaiser Wilhelm.

Picture 10 is an aereal view of the town of Koblenz.
